San Rafael is the last oasis in Southern Mendoza, irrigated by the rivers Diamante and Atuel. Beyond is Patagonia. Latitude is between 34.5 and 35 degrees and there are 1,980 degree-days in the Winkler Scale.
Soils: Sandy, low in Nitrogen with little organic matter.
Altitude: 450 to 800m
Grape varieties: The most notable is the Chenin Blanc, fragrant and delicate. Others include Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Bonarda and Malbec.
