Suter
Nowhere are hail nets more ubiquitous then in San Rafael. Southern Mendoza is particulary prone to devastating storms that darken the sky and bombard the vinyards with hailstones the size of golfballs. Bodega Suter is one winery that has been around long enough to take expensive precautions. It is owned by Covisan, a company that controls 40% of San Rafaelīs grape production and 10% of the domestic wine market.
Suter is it`s major brand. The bodega was built in 1900 and still retains its traditional roots. the wine cellar is a labyrinth of tunnels that lead to a round central subterraenean tasting room. the wine has improved markedly over the years. As well as mass produced Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon, Suter make 50,000 bottles of traditional champagne a year. Their highest bracket is called Premium Privado, a blend of Cabernet, Malbec and Merlot.
