LAGARDE
This traditional winery with vineyards over one hundred years old was bought by the well known Industrial entrepeneurs the Pescarmona family in the early eighties. Whilst renovating the beautiful, rustic building in Lujan de Cuyo, they accidentally came across a large cask of 1942 semillon. The wine had stabilised and was rich in aromas and flavour. You can now buy this, the oldest white wine in South America for $250 US.
Other interesting features are century old vineyards so narrow they require a mule to till. Other distinguishing features in the winery are cast iron fermentation tanks and a boutique champagne operation (see photo) where we can see at first hand wines being bottle by the champenoise method.
