Catena Zapata
If Mendoza had a Royal Family it would be the Catena Zapata dynasty. Owners of Rutini and Escorihuela wineries Catena had been important producers of bulk wines to the domestic market for many years. This all began to change in the early eighties. When on a tour in Napa Valley, Nicolas Catena experienced an epiphany whilst visiting the Robert Mondavi winery. Inspired by what he saw, Catena returned to Argentina and became a pioneer in the push to improve the quality of Argentine wine. The flagship winery designed like a Mayan temple has become a showroom for the Argentine wine industry.
