3 DAY PREMIUM WINE TOUR

Day 1: Arrival Mendoza, City Tour & Tasting

Your host meets you at Mendoza Airport and trasnfers you to Club Tapiz   in the wine region of Maipú.  After check-in and some time to freshen up we visit the main plazas; Independencia (which plays host to a Modern Art Museum and a theatre), Plaza España and Plaza San Martín.   Next we visit Las Heras Street Museum and the historical indoor Central Food Market, before heading to Parque General San Martín.   At the top end of the park we ascend Cerro de la Gloria (Glory Hill) crowned by a magnificent statue of San Martin and his Liberation Army, together with “Liberty” breaking the chains of bondage. Erected on top of and around the sides of a natural rock plinth   It really is one of the worlds   most powerful and complex bronze sculptures, executed by the well known Uruguayan sculptor Ferrari, with help from four Italian sculptors nearly one hundred years ago. On the way up (down) the hill   we will see the almost Greek looking amphitheatre (25,000 capacity) the permanent home of the annual and hugely popular Crowning of “The Queen” (see Wine Harvest Festival). Towards the bottom end of the park we will come to the Parks Lake, around which we can take a walk and stop for a coffee. Back into the transport to see the Civic centre, where many of the Provinces essential government offices are located. Following this we visit one of the most prestigious tasting rooms in Mendoza to enjoy a Reserve flight tasting.   Here you will taste five different Ultra Premium wines from boutique wineries that you not be visiting.   We lunch in wine themed restaurant “ Mi Tierra” before returning to your hotel.

Day 2: Wine Tour – Lújan de Cuyo

Your host picks you up from your hotel at 9am to visit three of our best wineries in the country. This region is considered to be the very home of Malbec, particularly the sub-regions of Agrelo and Perdriel, where the cost of land equates to the quality of the grapes. These two sub-regions epitomise “Terroir” made for the Malbec grape. Our first visit will   be to BENEGAS, Owner Federico Benegas Lynch has lovingly restored this 106 year old winery using hard-to-find “adobe” craftsmen, so that the building looks as it was, when built a century ago. Nothing old in his wine making skills though, except his vines all ranging from 30 to 80 years, the latter planted in the dry Mendoza riverbed. Has some very old Cabernet Franc descending from pre-phylloxera Bordeaux. Michel Rolland has a hand in this operation, probably more because it’s a chance for two “wine passionate” men to share the odd bottle. The tasting here includes their   Benegas and Benegas Estripe lines.   Another twenty minute drive and we will reach ENRIQUE FOSTER.   Enrique Foster has taken little time to make a big impression on the local and international wine scene. The Spanish-American owner has declared it his ambition to create the best malbec coming out of Argentina and for this reason they produce nothing else but this dark varietal that seems to have found its home in this vineyard zone. With vines more than 80 years old and the winemaking genius of Mauricio Lorca, Foster have so far not disappointed. Their three lines, the young and fruity Ique, lush Reserva and big hearted Edition Limitada are all superb wines. The mid range Reserva is garnering the most attention however for its super intensity and near perfect harmony of fruit and wood. The winery is not open to tourism but visits are allowed by the winery`s discretion.   From here we visit Bodega CARLOS PULENTA, a sleek, ultra-modern winery, is complemented by a gourmet lunch in their restaurant LA BOURGOGNE (sister to the famous restaurant in Buenos Aires of the same name). The tasting includes their Corte A range. We should get back to your hotel by 4.30pm.
